NCHS New Administrator Feature!
NCHS New Administrator Feature: We would like to welcome Ms. Erikka Brown as the new Assistant Principal here at NCHS! To get to know her a little better, she has answered several questions…
1. Where are you from? Do you have children/grandchildren or a pet?
I am from Auxvasse, Missouri. I do not have any children, but I do have a niece named Brixen who is my favorite person to spoil. I have two brothers, Luke (who works for the conservation department) and Brutus (a long-haired Chihuahua with a temper). I also have a dog named Gracie, who is not much of a talker but she is a really good listener.
2. Name an interesting fact about you and/or your family.
My family and I love to go camping and fishing, so that is what I spent most of my summer doing. Time spent at the lake is time well spent!
3. When did you first become aware that you wanted to be a teacher or an administrator?
As a freshman at Westminster College, I had every intention of studying political science and becoming a lawyer. One semester I took my first political science course and I also took an education course to fulfill a tier requirement. I quickly found out my passions did not lie in pre-law, but instead, flourished in the department of education. The day I declared an education major, I knew I wanted to go back to teach at North Callaway.
While student teaching, I had an administrator observe my class and was provided with points to consider, which opened my eyes to the significance between teaching and effective feedback. This particular event had a major impact on me, so I went back to school to gain principal certification.
4. Was there a special person in your life that influenced your decision to become a teacher (administrator)?
I had a lot of teachers throughout my time at North Callaway who influenced the type of educator I would become. One of those teachers was Mrs. Joy Thompson, my junior high science teacher. She was an educator I always admired because her commitment was not just to my education, but also in getting to know me as a person.
My administrative hero is Mrs. Nicky Kemp. I admire Mrs. Kemp for many reasons, one of those being her dedication to exemplify what it means to be a leader. She is always modeling professionalism and is committed to students and staff in the North Callaway School District.
5. What are you looking forward to the most in working with the students at NCHS?
I am looking forward to being part of the NCHS family and getting to know the students. I am anxious to be part of students’ educational journey and help them find success here at NCHS!
6. If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
If I could only use one word to describe myself, it would be driven. I have always been a goal setter and a list maker, both of which are products of my overly-organized tendencies. However, those tools have given me focus and kept me driven. It’s great to have the dream, but you have to have the drive.
7. What does Thunderbird Proud mean to you?
To me, Thunderbird Proud means despite where life takes you, you always take a piece of North Callaway with you. If you think about your time in this district, the people you have met, the lessons you have learned, the teachers who have inspired you, you quickly realize how much you have been shaped by North Callaway. Remembering these influences and using them to continually strive for success, that’s what it means to be Thunderbird Proud.
