North Callaway Participates in Special Olympics

hermannAuxvasse Elementary had a huge send-off for our student-athletes the morning of the departure. The entire school made banners, posters and cheered as the student-athletes walked out to Eye of the Tiger music played through the intercom. Superintendent Dr. Bryan Thomsen gave high-fives to all the student-athletes and mentors as they loaded the bus.
Three student-athletes from Hatton, and eight student-athletes from Auxvasse represented North Callaway in the Special Olympic Event. Auxvasse also had eight peer mentors attend the trip to help assist and cheer on the student-athletes. The Peer Mentor group is a group of students at Auxvasse Elementary, who are recommended by their teachers in the 5th grade that demonstrate responsible, respectful, and safe behaviors. These students volunteer two days of their recess to help students with disabilities with social and gross-motor activities.
North Callaway’s student-athletes had a huge success, with 16 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze medals.
